The New Year’s already off to a cracking start here at Lyons’ Den Gourmet Burger! After the rush of our first two months as a brand new restaurant in Shrewsbury and the excitement of Christmas, we couldn’t believe we got to start 2016 with one of the coolest and most unusual experiences we’ve faced since opening – we were asked to be caterers for an ITV production right here in the heart of Shrewsbury! Burgers at the ready!
On Saturday 9th January, BAFTA-nominated ITV mini-series Prey came to Shrewsbury to film at the former Dana Prison, home to the Jailhouse Tours. They were here last June, too, filming for the second series with Philip Glenister and Rosie Cavaliero, and returned to shoot some scenes for a third series.
Imagine our reaction when we were asked to provide lunch for their day of filming! We know how much our local customers have been enjoying our food and we are hugely proud of our growing reputation as a warm and welcoming restaurant. As a new business that only opened last November we were thrilled at how quickly the word has spread about The Lyons’ Den and our quality, handcrafted dishes from the freshest, local ingredients.
We prepared lunch for the 45 members of cast and crew there on the day, making up the food at The Lyons’ Den and then delivering it to The Dana. As well as choosing from our menu, the team requested specially that we make up items not on the menu – and it was absolutely no problem! We were only too delighted to get our chef whites on and ensure that their requests lived up to the high standard that our customers have been learning to love about us over the last few months.
This is what the Prey cast and crew ordered:
- 15 Shropshire Old Spot slow-roast pulled pork served in a freshly baked brioche bun, with BBQ sauce, lettuce, tomato and crispy onions*
- 3 Mushroom Burgers: grilled portobello mushrooms, goat’s cheese, caramelised red onions and crispy onions
- 3 Spiced Lentil & Potato Burgers
- 2 Halloumi burgers served with tomato relish and crispy onions*
- 6 Cheese Burgers with American cheese, fried onions, lettuce and tomato
- 6 Hot dogs with chilli con carne, crispy onions and cheddar cheese*
- 10 Sloppy Joe burgers: homemade beef burger served with chilli, cheese and crispy onions*
All served with our twice-cooked, homemade chips of course!
*Specially requested items
We are so proud to have been asked and to be able to share the food that we love with the ITV cast and crew. It’s something Adam and I will be talking about for a long time to come…
It’s not often we make lunch for a television production – in fact, this was the first time! – but we definitely hope it’s the first of many more! The Lyons’ Den are always willing to consider catering for film crews, organisations, large groups and parties close to our location at Traitor’s Gate.
Please call us on 01743 233225 for further information or if you’d like to book a table. We are open seven days a week.
